![]() ![]() What makes the characters so special is that each one of them has an important part to play. The quest to find Owen Glendower is fascinating, but it’s Blue, Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah that make the magical forest and a possible kiss of death so fascinating. The CharactersĪnother reason to read this series is for the characters. Anyone can read and connect with “The Raven Cycle” because the books are about adventure, friendship and love. ![]() There are so many things going on in this story, but Stiefvater ties it all together into a must-read series. She makes the story feel authentic and believable. On the surface, a story about a group of teenagers on the hunt for ancient magic doesn’t seem much different from many other young adult fantasy novels, but what makes the story of “The Raven Cycle” fascinating and worth reading is the way that Stiefvater effortlessly brings together ancient magic and modern problems. Throughout the group’s pursuit for this ancient magical king, they encounter a sentient forest, a mysterious hitman, a kiss of death and college applications, among many other mundane and strange experiences. Source of the book: Lawrence Public Libraryĭoreen Green is a college computer science student volunteering to teach an after school computer class for high schoolers. Overall, I think this book is worth a read if you like either of the main series, it is written for a bit younger age range, but I personally had no problem with that. ![]() (Also, yay for postmodern superpowers :D ) I felt sad about the antagonist, I hope we'll see her again. It's as if everyone else was afraid of drawing thighs. The plot is the really overdone "people get stuck in a video game," but this time written (partially) by people who understand about video games and software development, so that added a fresh perspective.Įrica Henderson draws Squirrel Girl so differently from anyone else, and honestly I prefer her version, so this book was a bit frustrating in that sense. Willow Wilson and Ryan North chapters, which are not at the beginning, so you might want to keep on reading even if you think the beginning is meh. I liked it, but I thought it could have been better. ![]() This crossover is for people like me who enjoy both Ms. ![]() ![]() But what has really torn them apart is too devastating to talk about. Deeply addictive and simmering with tension, THE LAST RESORT had me breathlessly turning the pages all the way through to its explosive conclusion.' - Lucy Clarke, author of The Castaways ![]() ![]() The new story has a different feel to it: the world is harsher, the stakes are higher, the action is more violent and the future feels bleak. If you read my Raven Cycle review, you’ll see I’m quite the frothing fan boy of the first series, so I was excited to get my hands on this new book. Genre-wise, the story sits somewhere between paranormal and fantasy. ![]() The action is set after Ronan and Adam have left school and Adam has begun college, so whilst the Raven Cycle was solidly YA, this novel is at the upper end of YA, edging into adult. Whereas the Raven Cycle focused around a group of school friends uncovering a supernatural mystery, the new trilogy focuses on the world of dreamers like Ronan, who can bring back objects from their dreams and, on the other side, people who believe them to be a serious threat to the world. This is the first in a new trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater, set in the same world as the Raven Cycle and featuring some of the same characters, particularly Ronan and Adam. ![]() |
